The term <i>au\u00dfer sich<\/i> usually means \u201cto be beside oneself\u201d (to be swept up in rage, or hilarity, and so on); but Hegel also clearly wants to play on the literal meaning of the term, so that he is also saying \u201cIt has come <i>outside of itself<\/i>,\u201d or self-consciousness exists as an \u201cexternal object\u201d to itself.
