pues tocando la c\u00edtara se hacen tanto los buenos como los malos citaristas, y de manera an\u00e1loga los constructores de casas y todo lo dem\u00e1s: pues construyendo bien ser\u00e1n buenos constructores, y construyendo mal, malos. Si no fuera as\u00ed, no habr\u00eda necesidad de maestros, sino que todos ser\u00edan de nacimiento buenos y malos. Y este es el caso tambi\u00e9n de las virtudes: pues por nuestra actuaci\u00f3n en las transacciones con los dem\u00e1s hombres nos hacemos justos o injustos, y nuestra actuaci\u00f3n en los peligros acostumbr\u00e1ndonos a tener miedo o coraje nos hace valientes o cobardes; y lo mismo ocurre con los apetitos y la ira: unos se vuelven moderados y mansos, otros licenciosos e iracundos, los unos por haberse comportado as\u00ed en estas materias, y los otros de otro modo. En una palabra, los modos de ser surgen de las operaciones semejantes. De ah\u00ed la necesidad de efectuar cierta clase de actividades, pues los modos de ser siguen las correspondientes diferencias en estas actividades. As\u00ed, el adquirir un modo de ser de tal o cual manera desde la juventud tiene no poca importancia, sino much\u00edsima, o mejor, total.1<\/a><\/sup>ARIST\u00d3TELES, como Plat\u00f3n, insiste varias veces en la importancia de la educaci\u00f3n para la adquisici\u00f3n de las buenas costumbres (cf. Were this not so, there would be no need for teachers of the arts, but everybody would be born a good or bad craftsman as the case might be. The same then is true of the virtues. It is by taking part in transactions with our fellow-men that some of us become just and others unjust; by acting in dangerous situations and forming a habit of fear or of confidence we become courageous or cowardly. And the same holds good of our dispositions with regard to the appetites, and anger; some men become temperate and gentle, others profligate and irascible, by actually comporting themselves in one way or the other in relation to those passions. In a word, our moral dispositions are formed as a result of the corresponding activities. Hence it is incumbent on us to control the character of our activities, since on the quality of these depends the quality of our dispositions.
