Se defiende de la acusaci\u00f3n de impiedad ante un jurado que est\u00e1 convencido de su impiedad. Desear\u00eda poder liberar a los atenienses de sus prejuicios si esto fuera, de alguna forma, mejor para ellos y para \u00e9l: una de las muchas cosas que no sabe es si para los atenienses no es mejor mantener indemnes sus prejuicios.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">S\u00f3crates reformula la calumnia de los primeros acusadores al expresarla como una acusaci\u00f3n formal. En consecuencia, esta resulta m\u00e1s responsable que la calumnia misma: no habla de que S\u00f3crates haya investigado todo lo que est\u00e1 bajo la tierra, sino de su investigaci\u00f3n de las cosas ocultas por la tierra. Al igual que la calumnia original, la acusaci\u00f3n no dice que S\u00f3crates no rend\u00eda culto a los dioses o no cre\u00eda en ellos. Pero el acusado a\u00f1ade ahora que \u00abS\u00f3crates ense\u00f1a a otros esas mismas cosas\u00bb, a saber, las cosas de debajo de la tierra, las cosas celestiales, y c\u00f3mo hacer m\u00e1s fuerte el discurso m\u00e1s d\u00e9bil: si no ense\u00f1ara las cosas que se le incriminan, no se sabr\u00eda que tiene algo que ver con ellas. He defends himself against the charge of impiety before a jury that is convinced of his impiety. He would wish that he could liberate the Athenians from their prejudices if this is in any way better both for them and for him: one of the many things he does not know is whether it is not better for the Athenians to keep their prejudice intact.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">Socrates restates the slander of the first accusers by framing it as a formal indictment. As a consequence, it becomes more responsible than the slander itself: it does not speak of Socrates\u2019 having investigated all things beneath the earth, but of his investigating the things beneath the earth. The formal indictment is as silent as the original slander on Socrates\u2019 not worshipping, or not believing in, gods. But Socrates adds now that \u201cSocrates teaches others these very things,\u201d namely, the things beneath the earth, the heavenly things, and rendering the weaker speech the stronger: if Socrates did not teach the incriminated things, it would not be known that he had anything to do with them.
