Sea de esto lo que fuere, me voy a defender, Varones [19a]<\/b> atenienses, e intentar desalojar de vosotros esa calumnia: la que guard\u00e1is de tanto tiempo atr\u00e1s, e \u00a1intentarlo en tiempo tan corto! Y querr\u00eda conseguirlo, si ha de ser para bien vuestro y m\u00edo, y aun tener \u00e9xito en mi defensa. Bien s\u00e9 que es dif\u00edcil, y no se me oculta en modo alguno cu\u00e1nto lo sea. Tomemos la cosa desde sus principios: \u00bfcu\u00e1l es la acusaci\u00f3n [19b]<\/b> de que se ha originado la calumnia, fund\u00e1ndose en la cual Meleto ha redactado la acusaci\u00f3n escrita? Veamos, pues: \u00bfqu\u00e9 es lo que dicen calumniosamente los calumniadores? Enter\u00e9monos de su acusaci\u00f3n, cual si fueran acusadores presentes que la han jurado contra m\u00ed. \u00abS\u00f3crates es culpable; se entromete en porfiadas inquisiciones acerca de las cosas subterr\u00e1neas y celestiales, endereza las malas razones y resultan excelentes, y ense\u00f1a a otros a hacer lo mismo\u00bb. [19c]<\/b> Tal es el cap\u00edtulo de acusaci\u00f3n; que tales cosas hab\u00e9is visto vosotros mismos en la comedia de Arist\u00f3fanes: se pasea por el escenario a un cierto S\u00f3crates, que dice andar por los aires, y suelta mil otras sandeces de las que no s\u00e9 ni poco ni mucho. Y no es que desprecie yo tal ciencia, si alguno es en ella realmente sabio, ni que pretenda escaparme de un nuevo proceso que por tal desprecio me levantara Meleto; sino que, en verdad, no me entrometo, Varones atenienses, en semejantes cosas.<\/span><\/p>\n

For you yourselves saw these things in Aristophanes’ comedy, a Socrates being carried about there, proclaiming that he was treading on air and uttering a vast deal of other nonsense, about which I know nothing, either much or little.
