With Rousseau there begins what we may call the second wave of modernity: the wave which bore both German idealistic philosophy and the romanticism of all ranks in all countries. <\/span>T<\/span>his great and complex counter-movement consisted in the first place in a return from the world of modernity to pre-modern ways of thinking.<\/span> Rousseau returned from the world of finance, from what he was the first to call the world of the <\/span>bourgeois<\/i><\/span>, to the world of <\/span>virtue <\/span>and the city, to the world of the <\/span>citoyen<\/i><\/span>. Kant returned from Descartes\u2019 and Locke\u2019<\/span>s <\/span>notion of ideas to the Platonic notion. Hegel returned from the philosophy of reflection to the \u201chigher vitality\u201d of Plato and Aristotle.<\/span> And romanticism as a whole is primarily a movement of return to the origins. Yet in all these cases, the return to pre-modern thought was only the initial step of a movement which led, consciously or unconsciously, to a much <\/span>more <\/span>radical form of modernity\u2014to a form of modernity which was still more alien to classical thought than the thought of the 17th and 1<\/span>8th <\/span>centuries had been.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Next paragraph<\/a><\/p>\n Previous paragraph<\/a><\/p>\n Esta sabidur\u00eda <\/span>serpentina,1<\/a><\/sup>La \u00abla sabidur\u00eda serpentina\u00bb hace referencia a la sagacidad de la serpiente, que ha sido proverbial en Occidente. Rousseau. Con Rousseau comienza lo que pudi\u00e9ramos denominar la segunda <\/span>ola<\/span> de la modernidad: la <\/span>ola que dio a luz la filosof\u00eda del <\/span>idealismo alem\u00e1n <\/span>y al <\/span>romanticismo <\/span>de todo tipo en todos los pa\u00edses<\/span>. Este <\/span>gran <\/span>complejo movimiento de reacci\u00f3n consisti\u00f3 <\/span>en primer lugar<\/span> en un <\/span>retorno<\/span> desde el<\/span> mundo de la modernidad <\/span>hacia<\/span> los <\/span>modos<\/span> premodernos del pensamiento. <\/span>Rousseau realiz\u00f3 el viaje de retorno desde el mundo de las finanzas <\/span>\u2014<\/span>de ese mundo que \u00e9l denomin\u00f3 por vez primera el mundo del <\/span>bourgeois<\/i><\/span>\u2014<\/span>2<\/a><\/sup>burgu\u00e9s.<\/span> <\/span>al mundo de la virtud y de la ciudad, es decir, al mundo del <\/span>citoyen<\/i><\/span>.3<\/a><\/sup>ciudadano<\/span> Kant realiz\u00f3 su odisea <\/span>\u2014<\/span>retorno<\/span>\u2014 <\/span>desde las concepciones de las ideas en Descartes y Locke para volver a la concepci\u00f3n plat\u00f3nica. <\/span>Hegel hiz<\/span>o<\/span> lo propio abandonando la filosof\u00eda de la reflexi\u00f3n para volver a la <\/span>\u00ab<\/span>superior vitalidad<\/span>\u00bb <\/span>de Plat\u00f3n y Arist\u00f3teles. <\/span>Y el romanticismo en su conjunto es, ante todo, un movimiento de retorno a los or\u00edgenes.
