But this compulsion must be the work of badness, of selfishness, of selfish passion. Which passion will induce a bad man to be passionately concerned with compelling other bad men to become good and to remain good? Which passion will educate the educator of men? The passion in question is the desire for glory.The highest form of the desire for glory is the desire to be a new prince in the fullest sense of the term, a wholly new prince: a discoverer of a new type of social order, a molder of many generations of men. The founder of society has a selfish interest in the preservation of society, of his work. He has therefore a selfish interest in the members of his society being and remaining sociable, and hence good.The desire for glory is the link between badness and goodness. It makes possible the transformation of badness into goodness. The wholly new prince of the highest kind is animated by nothing but selfish ambition. The great public tasks which he undertakes are for him only opportunities for coloring his design. La pasi\u00f3n <\/span><span lang=\"es-ES\">a la que nos referimos <\/span><span lang=\"es-ES\">es el deseo de gloria. <\/span><span lang=\"es-ES\">L<\/span><span lang=\"es-ES\">a forma m\u00e1s alta del deseo de gloria es el deseo de ser un nuevo pr\u00edncipe en el sentido m\u00e1s <\/span><span lang=\"es-ES\">amplio<\/span><span lang=\"es-ES\"> del t\u00e9rmino, un pr\u00edncipe completamente nuevo: el <\/span><span lang=\"es-ES\">descubridor<\/span><span lang=\"es-ES\"> de una forma nueva de orden social, el moldeador de muchas generaciones de hombres. El <\/span><span lang=\"es-ES\">fundador <\/span><span lang=\"es-ES\">de la sociedad tiene un inter\u00e9s ego\u00edsta en conservar esa sociedad, en conservar su obra. Tiene, <\/span><span lang=\"es-ES\">por tanto<\/span><span lang=\"es-ES\">, un inter\u00e9s ego\u00edsta en que los miembros de su sociedad sean y permanezcan sociables y, por <\/span><span lang=\"es-ES\">ende<\/span><span lang=\"es-ES\">, buenos. El deseo de gloria es <\/span><span lang=\"es-ES\">el<\/span> <span lang=\"es-ES\">v\u00ednculo que une a la maldad y a la bondad<\/span><span lang=\"es-ES\">. Hace posible la transformaci\u00f3n de la maldad en bondad. El pr\u00edncipe completamente nuevo <\/span><span lang=\"es-ES\">de la m\u00e1s alta clase est\u00e1 animado por nada m\u00e1s que su<\/span><span lang=\"es-ES\"> ambici\u00f3n ego\u00edsta.
